Underfloor Heating Mat Installation Guide

Installing your underfloor heating mat is simple when you follow the correct steps. Here’s a quick and easy guide to help you set up your system safely and efficiently:

Preparation

• Plan Your Layout: Before you start, carefully plan where your mat will go. Avoid placing heating mats under permanent fixtures like cabinets, bathtubs, or heavy furniture.
• Surface Check: Make sure the floor is clean, dry, and free from sharp objects.
• Mark Areas: Mark any "no-go" zones where mats will not be laid.

Laying the Mat

• Roll Out the Mat: Start from the thermostat location. Roll the mat across the floor according to your layout plan.
• Cut and Turn (Only the Mesh): If you need to change direction, cut the fibreglass mesh (not the heating wire) and rotate the mat.
• Maintain Proper Gaps: Keep a safe distance (usually about 50–100mm) between adjacent heating wires.

Positioning the Sensor

• Install Floor Sensor: Place the floor sensor between two heating cables without touching the wire. Secure it properly with tape to ensure accurate temperature readings.

Electrical Connection

• Cold Tail Connection: Connect the cold tail wires to the thermostat. This step must be performed by a qualified electrician according to local regulations.
• Test the System: Before covering the mat, test the resistance using a multimeter to ensure the mat has not been damaged during installation.

Covering the Mat

• Apply Tile Adhesive or Self-Levelling Compound: Once tested, cover the mat with a suitable adhesive or compound before installing floor tiles or finishing material.
• Floor Finishing: Install the flooring carefully, ensuring no sharp tools damage the cables.

Final Testing and Commissioning

• After the flooring has been laid and the adhesive is fully cured, test the system again by checking current continuity.
